Overview

The Panasonic Industry PaPIR PLUS Sensors are passive infrared motion sensors designed for presence and movement detection in electronic and automated systems. The portfolio includes the AMN3, EKMB (WL), and EKMC (VZ) series, providing configurations for battery-operated and battery-free equipment. Depending on the series, the sensors provide digital or analog output interfaces for integration with control circuitry.

The AMN3 series provides a digital output with 170μA current consumption and white or black lens options. The EKMB (WL) series targets battery-operated devices and offers digital outputs with current consumption options of 1μA, 2μA, or 6μA. The EKMC (VZ) series provides digital and analog outputs with 170μA current consumption. Available lens colors include white, black, and pearl white, depending on the series. The sensor design combines pyroelectric sensing elements, internal signal processing, and a compact lens to support motion detection in lighting, security cameras, climate-control equipment, heaters, and digital signage.

Features of PaPIR PLUS Sensors

The PaPIR PLUS Sensors combine pyroelectric sensing, internal signal processing, and compact lens construction. Multiple series provide digital or analog outputs for battery-operated and battery-free motion-detection applications across systems. Let’s go through their features in detail:

Integrated PIR Motion Detection

The PaPIR PLUS design combines pyroelectric sensing devices with internal signal-processing circuitry to detect changes in infrared energy caused by movement. Integrating sensing and processing within the sensor architecture simplifies implementation in motion-detection systems and provides a defined output that can be connected to downstream control electronics for system-level operation.

Battery-Operated Sensor Options

The EKMB (WL) series is configured for battery-operated equipment and provides a digital output. Current-consumption options include 1μA, 2μA, and 6μA, allowing designers to select a configuration according to system power requirements. This series is available with white, black, or pearl white lenses to match different enclosure designs.

Battery-Free Output Configurations

For battery-free equipment, the AMN3 series provides digital output operation at 170μA and is available with white or black lenses. The EKMC (VZ) series also operates at 170μA while providing both digital and analog output options. These configurations support different approaches to processing motion information within connected control systems.

Compact Lens and Integration Design

The sensors use a small lens structure to simplify integration into equipment housings with limited installation space. Depending on the selected series, white, black, and pearl white lens options let you incorporate the sensing element into different enclosure designs while maintaining the required PIR motion-detection interface.

Material and System Design

PaPIR PLUS sensors incorporate environmentally conscious materials alongside the pyroelectric sensing element, lens, and internal signal-processing architecture. The product family provides multiple electrical and mechanical configurations, allowing motion sensing to be incorporated into lighting, imaging, heating, air-conditioning, and display equipment without requiring the same sensor configuration across every application.

Applications

Panasonic Industry PaPIR PLUS Sensors support motion and presence detection in lighting systems, where detected movement can trigger automatic switching or control functions. In IP cameras, the sensors can initiate monitoring or recording when they detect movement. Wall-mounted air conditioners and heaters can use presence information as an input for operating controls. Digital signage systems can detect nearby movement and use the sensor output to activate displays or initiate content-related functions. Battery-operated configurations are suited to equipment where reduced current consumption is required, while battery-free versions provide digital or analog outputs for systems with continuous power availability.
