Overview

The Renesas Electronics MCK-RX14T Motor Control Evaluation Kit is a development platform for evaluating permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and brushless DC motor control using the RX14T microcontroller. The kit combines an RX14T CPU board, three-phase inverter board, communication board, and R42BLD30L3 brushless DC motor to provide the hardware required for motor-control development.

The inverter board is rated for 48V/10A operation and supports both 1-shunt and 3-shunt current-sensing configurations. Hall sensors and encoders can provide rotor-position feedback, while integrated overcurrent detection supports protection during evaluation. An onboard debugger provides RX14T flash programming. The communication board electrically isolates the PC from the CPU board during development and debugging. The software resources include Renesas Motor Workbench for debugging, analysis, and motor-control tuning, along with sample code and QE for Motor. The kit also includes cables, screws, and standoffs needed to assemble and connect the evaluation hardware.

Features of MCK-RX14T Motor Control Evaluation Kit

The MCK-RX14T combines motor-control processing, three-phase power conversion, feedback interfaces, and debugging hardware. Its development tools support programming, analysis, tuning, and evaluation of PMSM and brushless DC motor systems. Let’s go through its features in detail:

RX14T Motor Control Platform

The CPU board uses the RX14T as the primary motor-control MCU to execute control algorithms and manage peripheral functions. Combined with the available sample code and QE for Motor, the platform enables evaluation of permanent magnet synchronous and brushless DC motor control while giving you access to the MCU for application development and configuration.

Three-Phase Inverter and Current Sensing

The included inverter board provides a three-phase power stage rated for 48V and 10A operation. It supports both 1-shunt and 3-shunt current-sensing configurations, allowing you to evaluate different motor-current measurement approaches. Integrated overcurrent detection protects the power stage during motor-control development, testing, and tuning.

Position Feedback Support

The MCK-RX14T supports Hall sensors and encoders for obtaining motor rotor-position and speed information. These feedback interfaces let developers evaluate motor-control implementations that require position-related data. Combined with current sensing and the RX14T MCU, they provide the measurement resources needed to develop and analyze different closed-loop motor-control configurations.

Motor Workbench and Debugging

Renesas Motor Workbench provides software functions for debugging, analyzing, and tuning motor-control programs. The onboard debugger enables flash programming of the RX14T without requiring a separate programming interface. QE for Motor and available sample code provide additional development resources for configuring and evaluating motor-control operation on the supplied hardware platform.

Electrically Isolated Development Setup

The included communication board electrically isolates the PC from the CPU board during motor-control evaluation and debugging. The complete kit also contains an R42BLD30L3 brushless DC motor, communication and USB cables, screws, and standoffs. These components provide the hardware connections and mechanical accessories required to assemble the development setup.

Applications

The Renesas Electronics MCK-RX14T Motor Control Evaluation Kit is intended for developing and evaluating PMSM and brushless DC motor-control systems. It can test motor-control algorithms, current-sensing methods, rotor-position feedback, overcurrent protection, and control-loop tuning before implementing these functions in application-specific hardware. The platform supports development work involving three-phase motor drives, embedded motion-control systems, industrial motor controllers, pumps, fans, and other electrically commutated motor systems. Its Hall sensor and encoder interfaces also support feedback-based control experiments, while Renesas Motor Workbench, QE for Motor, and sample code provide software resources for analysis, debugging, and parameter adjustment.
