Overview

The ADP1034 is a versatile power management unit that provides up to 3 isolated power outputs. It features a combination of DC-DC converters to facilitate user requirements. The three converters have dedicated power rails to prevent signal interference. The unit works over the input range of 4.5 to 60 Volts, generating an isolated output from 6 to 28 Volts. Also, it provides a factory-programmable output voltage of 5 Volts.

Moreover, it comes with four high-speed SPI isolation channels and three general-purpose isolators. The device aims to provide low-power dissipation features for wide-ranging industrial-grade applications.

Multiple DC-DC Conversion Schemes for Tailored Output Voltages

The ADP1034 power management unit provides three distinct DC-DC conversion schemes with dedicated hardware. Each converter has a dedicated output in different ranges.

  • Flyback Regulator - It operates as a default 250KHz and generates an isolated output programmable from 6 to 28 Volts. It operates the current mode control which produces a fast inner current controlled loop for regulating peak inductor current. Likewise, it produces a slower outer loop through an isolated iCoupler. The use of high-efficiency switching regulators allows for a smaller transformer and better output accuracy. The PPC_IN pin of the ADP1034 can be used to program the Flyback feedback voltage via a microcontroller.

  • Buck Regulator - Uses an internal oscillator to operate at a fixed frequency in the current mode control. It’s a step-down regulator featuring an Undervoltage lockout (UVLO) causing the device to lockout if the output voltage (Vout1) drops below 4.5 Volts. It also features current limit protection to limit the peak inductor current.

  • Inverting Regulator - Operates at a fixed internal frequency (125KHz default) in the current mode control. It features Undervoltage protection and soft start circuitry.

In addition to fixed preset frequencies, the ADP1034 can be programmed with an external oscillator to operate at 350KHz to 750KHz for noise-sensitive applications.

Easy Setup and Evaluation with EVAL-ADP1034 Evaluation Kit

The ADP1034 power management unit is best used with the EVAL-ADP1034 evaluation kit. This kit provides the essential I/O pins, communication interface, clock circuitry, connectors, and headers, preventing the need for specialized circuit development.

As a result, designers can instantly get started with evaluation and prototyping rapid development. The kit allows users to evaluate load regulation, line regulation, and the performance of digital isolated signals. It also features assistance for the essential ADP1034 functionalities like soft start, slew rate control, and oscillator synchronization.
