This enables the smart badge to seamlessly perform a wide range of time critical tasks in offices or workplaces. </p><h2>Powerful processing capabilities</h2><p>The Inkcard-A1 card can show images, text, QR codes or barcodes on its 50.8 by 76.2 mm color display, programmed wirelessly via an iOS or Android companion app and uploaded to the smart badge in less than 6 seconds, thanks to the wireless connectivity and processing capability of the nRF54L15 SoC. The card can replace traditional RFID-based access control cards and is designed for identity verification, attendance checking, security management, as well as asset tracking use cases in retail, office, conference, logistics and healthcare settings. </p><p>“Integrating Bluetooth LE wireless connectivity into the Inkcard-A1 has allowed us to transform employee badges from static cards into intelligent wireless terminals,” says Spring Mao , Foreign Sales Manager, Holyiot. “This solves the pain points of traditional employee badges that are difficult to update, cumbersome to manage, and only have a single function. They’re simple and inexpensive to implement, and can be read by any optical scanner. But, they’re no longer sufficient to meet the requirements of modern connected systems or regulated healthcare workflows. </p><p>Today’s medical devices exchange data continuously and often operate in sealed or sterile environments where visual scanning is impractical or impossible. These devices need a smarter and more reliable form of identification that can operate inside constrained spaces, integrate into electronic assemblies, and maintain data integrity.</p><p><strong>Radio frequency identification (RFID)</strong> offers that next step. It offers automatic data capture without human intervention, readout through packaging, and the flexibility to update information after deployment. Importantly, this process works without a direct visual path and continues to function when the tag is behind plastic, film, or non-conductive barriers.</p><p>Hospitals, labs, and pharmaceutical facilities benefit from RFID tags because they reduce contact-based scanning. A reader mounted at a workstation or production bench can detect tagged items as soon as they enter the field. Staff do not need to manipulate items individually. When integrated into surgical workflows, RFID can support automated tray verification and tool authentication. In addition, every read event is part of an electronic record, leading to more reliable documentation and greater traceability. </p><p>Murata’s <strong>1.2 x 1.2 x 0.55 millimeter RFID tag package</strong> means that system engineers can embed them directly into a device’s housing or even mold them into plastic components. When the tag becomes part of the product structure, it creates a permanent, invisible identifier that’s part of the product design. The embedded configuration also protects the tag from abrasion or contamination, especially during processes such as sterilization, transport, or mechanical assembly.  </p><h2>What RFID Can Do That Barcodes Cannot?</h2><p>Barcodes store static information that can’t change after printing, which limits their usefulness in dynamic or regulated workflows. RFID tags, on the other hand, offer reprogrammable memory regions that store useful data like device identifiers, batch numbers, expiration dates, usage counters, and maintenance history. Engineers can update these values throughout production or use cycles without modifying the physical device, making a live data store inside every tagged component.</p><p>RFID also eliminates line-of-sight constraints! Barcode-based scanners need a clean path between the label and the sensor. This becomes particularly challenging when operating in sterile or sealed environments. RFID can operate through polymer films and non-metallic housings, letting readers identify items inside enclosures without compromising containment. Facilities can therefore maintain sterility and process integrity without compromising an automated workflow.</p><p>For higher throughput operations, RFID supports multi-tag interrogation in ways that barcodes can’t. With RFID, a single reader can detect a full set of instruments or consumables at once. Surgical teams verify tray contents in seconds, or pharmaceutical operators can track vials in batches rather than scanning each unit. The system simply records every item automatically to lower labor requirements and reduce counting errors that occur during manual optical scanning.</p><p>Finally, RFID offers major durability advantages! Barcodes tend to degrade under abrasion, chemical exposure, or thermal cycling, and the resulting surface wear can render the label unusable. In contrast, Murata’s RFID tags operate independently of surface conditions because the antenna and memory reside inside a sealed microelectronic package. Ensuring the Safety of Fur Babies: The Role of GNSS in Advanced Pet Trackers

<p id="isPasted">When entering the connected device market, businesses are looking for IoT solutions that can keep costs manageable, scale effectively with business demands, and keep data secure.</p><p>In particular, scaling effectively requires proper consideration for provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and analysis of the connected devices because making the wrong decisions early on can get costly later. Getting scalability right is even more critical for sensors deployed in remote and inaccessible locations.</p><p>One of our clients initially planned on building their own custom IoT solution for their remote monitored devices that are being deployed in 10 locations. While being a more affordable cost up-front, a custom, in-house solution would require our client to be responsible for <em>all</em> maintenance throughout a device&rsquo;s lifecycle. This solution also does not require specialized resources to know the technical systems.</p><p>In this post, we look at the 5 major selling features of an IoT framework for a device deployment.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h2>1. Cradle to grave tracking of devices</h2><p>Our client selected Azure for their IoT framework, using it to provision devices on the assembly line and make a first-time connection. Ability to determine at-a-glance whether a device is problematic</h2><p>Devices dial out to the cloud to establish connectivity, and that connectivity is tracked by Azure&rsquo;s IoT system. Proactive alerts can be set if a device has not appeared online for a while or data has not been uploaded. All of this automation helps minimize downtime and data loss.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h2>3. Continuous uploading and organization of data</h2><p>The devices will upload data continuously, whenever there is a connection. The data goes into a standard cloud-hosted storage solution (<em>blob storage</em>) which keeps the data centralized and accessible to those who need it, while also being monitored to ensure the devices are functioning correctly. Offline (queued) updates to parameters and firmware</h2><p>Devices on a standard framework don&rsquo;t have to be online to queue up changes to parameters and schedule new firmware updates &ndash; they can be in storage, in transit, or in use. Businesses can adopt a &ldquo;set it and forget it&rdquo; mindset knowing updates will be automatically applied. This reduces additional coordination work.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h2>5. Mass updates to the smart device&rsquo;s parameters</h2><p>Updates to parameters can be easily made fleet-wide, or to any subset of devices. As the product evolves, these changes can be made to optimize operation, and subsets of devices can be used as a test bed before rolling out changes to a larger number. The built-in optimization for updates helps decrease device management overhead.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h2>Conclusion</h2><p>When looking at scaling of deployments, the economics favor the standard IoT framework.
