Overview

The NXP Semiconductors KITFS0400A0EVM Evaluation Board is a soldered development platform for evaluating the FS04 high-voltage ASIL D power management IC in S32N processor power architectures. The board integrates one FS04 device, two PF53 PMICs with different OTP configurations, and an FRDM-KL25Z communication bridge for connection to NXP GUI software.

The GUI provides register access, I2C communication, I/O control, diagnostics, OTP emulation, and OTP programming. Onboard connectors, jumpers, switches, LEDs, and test points provide access to regulator outputs, ADC inputs, GPIOs, and safety-related signals. Power outputs include VPRE, BOOST, four buck regulators, and LDO1, while VDDIO can be selected between 1.8V and 3.3V. Safety interfaces expose PGOOD, FS0B, RSTB, FCCU, and POR-REQ signals. The board also includes battery switching, ideal-diode support, standby controls, and manual or automated OTP fuse programming for automotive power-system evaluation.

Features of KITFS0400A0EVM Evaluation Board

The KITFS0400A0EVM integrates power regulation, safety monitoring, configuration, and diagnostic resources for FS04 evaluation. Its hardware interfaces and GUI connectivity support system-level automotive power architecture development and validation activities. Let’s go through its features in detail:

FS04 and PF53 Power Architecture

The board contains one soldered FS04 high-voltage ASIL D PMIC alongside two PF53 devices configured as PPF5300AMMALES and PPF5300AMMAMES. This arrangement supports system-level evaluation of multiple power-management stages for S32N processor architectures, including regulator configuration, power sequencing, supply monitoring, and safety-related power-management functions within an automotive development environment.

Configurable Power Outputs

Power resources include a 3.3V to 5.3V VPRE output rated up to 20A and a 4.5V to 5.5V BOOST output rated up to 1A. Four buck outputs provide adjustable low-voltage rails, while LDO1 supplies 1.0V to 4.1V at up to 400mA. VDDIO supports selectable 1.8V or 3.3V operation.

GUI Communication and OTP Programming

FRDM-KL25Z communication bridge connects the evaluation board to NXP GUI software through a Windows PC. The interface provides access to device registers, I2C communication, I/O control, and diagnostic functions. It also supports OTP emulation and manual and automated OTP fuse programming to evaluate device configuration before final programming.

Safety and Real-Time Monitoring

Dedicated test points and indicators provide access to regulator inputs and outputs, ADC inputs, GPIOs, ground connections, and safety-related signals. PGOOD, FS0B, RSTB, FCCU, and POR-REQ can be monitored during evaluation. LEDs provide regulator and signal status information, allowing power behavior and safety responses to be observed during system testing.

Hardware Configuration and Power Control

Onboard connectors, jumpers, and switches allow the evaluation environment to be configured for different test conditions. Dedicated connections support VBAT and regulator outputs, while battery switching and ideal-diode functionality support power-input evaluation. Standby controls enable testing of low-power operating modes for automotive power-management development and validation.

Applications

The NXP Semiconductors KITFS0400A0EVM Evaluation Board supports FS04 PMIC evaluation and power-architecture development for S32N processors. It can configure and validate regulator outputs, safety signals, power sequencing, standby behavior, and OTP settings for automotive electronic systems. Target development areas include central compute platforms, service-oriented gateways, in-vehicle networks, domain controllers, and telematics systems. The board also supports automotive safety-processing development where ASIL D power management, diagnostic monitoring, and safety-related signaling must be evaluated. Its FS04 and dual-PF53 configuration enables system-level testing of multi-rail power architectures before integration into application-specific automotive hardware.
