The Tech Company Dendra Systems have invented a drone-based aerial seeding system that plants thousands of trees in remote and diverse landscapes.

This video is part of the World Economic Forum Series on inspiring pioneers finding creative solutions to restore nature and fight climate change. Susan Graham, the CEO and Co-Founder of Dendra Systems explains that the scale of land degradation today has gone too far. The company works with numerous engineers, plant scientists, and drone operators to ensure the speed and accuracy of the drones in planting in diverse and often hard to reach landscapes.

The drone-enabled technology helps in global restoration by firing seeds in biodegradable pods that have all the necessary nutrients for growth. By combining digital intelligence with automation, this enables the combination of the right species at the right location. This data is uploaded unto the drone which then goes out and follows that path and plants those trees where they are needed.

Globally 10 billion trees are lost through wildfires and illegal logging, increasing the carbon in the atmosphere and accelerating climate change. Annually, there are up to 1 billion hectares of unused land that could be suitable for tree planting. In the future, swarms of Dendra drones could plant thousands of trees as the company targets planting 500 billion trees.
