Overview

Toshiba DCx digital data isolators are high-speed, multichannel data isolators that use proprietary magnetic coupling for primary and secondary side data isolation in a 16-pin package. These are designed to provide high transient voltage isolation for up to 5000Vrms, suitable for control applications in automotive and industrial systems.

Advanced Isolation Technology for High-Speed Data

The digital isolator features an advanced magnetic coupling technology to create an isolation gap between the primary and secondary sides. It secures the input and output sides, helping to achieve high-speed data transmission without signal corruption. It forms a robust wall against potential voltage spikes, securing up to 5000 Vrms signals.

The isolator’s robust performance makes it an ideal option in rugged industrial environments. It offers common-mode transient immunity for signals, guarding ports against unexpected rapid voltage changes. Hence, it also becomes a viable option for high-speed digital systems. The devices are available in 2-channel, 3-channel, and 4-channel variants with varying isolation voltage ranges, supply voltages and operating currents.

Multi-channel Isolation with Low-Power Features and Integration Options

The multi-channel design enables these packages to easily integrate with standard industry equipment. A single package contains up to 4 channel support. Therefore, designers and engineers can optimize board space and miniaturize their digital designs. It also simplifies the design, making it seamless to integrate with FPGA boards and microcontrollers.

Other than the form factor, the supply voltage and operating currents enable its integration with modern digital boards. The Toshiba DCx Digital Isolators can work from 3.3V to a default 5.0V supply voltage, easily compatible with most modern digital gadgets. Also, it ensures that they can sync with the logic levels of these gadgets.

One key feature in this device is its low-latency. It offers a propagation delay of just 10.9 ns, comparable to most modern digital isolators. In addition, it has a wide operating temperature range of up to 125 degrees Celsius, making it a suitable option for most industrial environments. The low-power design and high-speed operations make it a suitable option for battery-powered, real-time control applications.

Versatile Use Cases in the Industrial Sector

Thanks to the low-power, and space-saving design, Toshiba’s DCx Digital Isolators are best-suited for industrial automation applications. They can handle high voltages, making them the perfect insulation option to prevent circuitry damage. They can isolate sensors, control systems, and actuators for smooth and safe performance.

Moreover, thanks to enhanced battery management features, these isolators can provide safety to driver assistance systems, inverters, and electric vehicle charging circuits. Thanks to robust isolation, it also reduces noise and risk of damage on high-voltage lines.
