Overview
The MAX20075 is a compact, efficient synchronous buck converter capable of delivering up to 0.6A of output current. It features integrated high-side and low-side switches for rapid synchronous rectification for maximized efficiency. It’s suited for automotive, industrial, and portable electronics applications.
The buck converter can convert higher input voltages (3.5V to 36V) into regulated 3.3V or 5V outputs. It also features a programmable output voltage of 1 to 10 Volts. The converter has a miniaturized form factor that saves board space, while low EMI and spread-spectrum frequency modulation ensure clean operation.
High Accuracy Voltage Conversion for Low-Power Applications
The MAX20075 Buck converter provides a flexible option for low-power applications, ensuring optimal conversion accuracy. Based on the input voltage range, the conversion accuracy varies according to the following scheme:
±2% accuracy for the nominal input voltage range of 6 to 18 Volts. This accuracy is provided for the fixed output options of 3.3V and 5V.
±1.5% accuracy for adjustable output voltage range from 1V to 10V. This can be achieved with an externally connected adjustable resistor.
Moreover, the MAX20075 buck converter operates at a reasonably high frequency of up to 2.1MHz, contributing to its small form factor. More importantly, it expands the conversion range allowing greater input-to-output conversion ratios. The high frequency also means smaller external component size and reduced output ripples. It also cuts the chances of AM interference.
The device has a 20nS minimum on-time capability. The user can monitor the output Voltage via PGOOD signal. The simplistic design also allows the users to operate it like a plug and play device.
Current-Mode-Control Architecture for Reduced Board Space
The MAX20075 features a current-mode control architecture. This architecture monitors the inductor's peak current to regulate output voltage. It offers several advantages like
Fast transient response
Inherent current limiting for protection against short circuits.
By comparing the sensed inductor current to a reference, the controller adjusts the duty cycle of the high-side and low-side switches accordingly, ensuring precise output voltage regulation.
Industrial-Grade Protection Features for Safe Operations
The MAX20075 Buck Converter is designed for safe operations thanks to the standard protection features such as:
Overcurrent Protection - Limits the output peak current to 1.9A with a 12% accuracy. The device turns off when OUT is less than 50% of the output voltage and overcurrent is detected. Moreover, the device attempts a soft start every 7ms and stays off if the short circuit still exists.
Thermal Overload Protection - Automatically turns off if the device’s junction temperature exceeds 175 degrees Celsius. It attempts a soft start once the temperature reduces by 15 degrees Celsius.
The industrial-grade protection features and small form factor make MAX20075 a viable option for various industrial applications, high-voltage DC-DC conversions, and Automotive needs.
