Overview

The Carling Technologies Hydraulic-Magnetic Circuit Breakers are circuit protection devices designed to provide precise overcurrent protection across industrial, commercial, military, and power distribution applications. Their hydraulic-magnetic operating mechanism responds only to current changes rather than ambient temperature variations, enabling stable trip characteristics over a wide range of environmental conditions. The product family includes the A-, C-, J-, M-, MS-, and G-Series, offering multiple pole configurations, mounting styles, and interrupting capacities to support different electrical system requirements.

The portfolio includes compact front-panel breakers, DIN-rail models, rugged sealed versions, and high-current designs supporting AC and DC circuits. Selected models provide interrupting capacities up to 10,000A, current ratings up to 100A, and operating voltages up to 480VAC or 125VDC, depending on the series. Configuration options include various actuators, terminal styles, and panel hardware to accommodate equipment integration across automation, telecommunications, renewable energy, medical, marine, and military systems.

Features of Hydraulic-Magnetic Circuit Breakers

The hydraulic-magnetic circuit breaker family provides overcurrent protection across multiple electrical systems. Let’s go through its features in detail:

Hydraulic-Magnetic Protection Technology

The circuit breakers use a hydraulic-magnetic tripping mechanism that responds to overcurrent conditions independently of ambient temperature. Unlike thermal protection devices, the trip characteristics remain stable across varying environmental conditions because the operating mechanism reacts only to changes in circuit current, providing consistent protection for AC and DC electrical systems.

Multiple Product Series and Configurations

The portfolio includes A-, C-, J-, M-, MS-, and G-Series breakers designed for different application requirements. Configurations range from one to six poles with multiple actuator styles, including toggle, paddle, Visi Rocker®, and sealed metal toggle options. Different series support compact panel mounting, DIN-rail installation, and rugged industrial environments.

High Interrupting Capacity and Electrical Ratings

Selected series provide interrupting capacities of up to 10,000A for high-power applications. Current ratings range from 0.02A to 100A depending on the model, while supported operating voltages extend up to 480VAC and 125VDC. These electrical ratings enable deployment across power distribution, industrial control, and equipment protection systems.

Mechanical Design and Environmental Protection

The breakers are available in subminiature, compact, front-panel, and DIN-rail form factors. The MS-Series provides IP68 ingress protection and complies with military standards when panel mounted. Wiping contacts improve electrical contact reliability, while multiple terminal and hardware options support flexible equipment integration.

Application-Specific Design Features

Different product families are optimized for specific power conversion and protection requirements. RMR models support regulated power supplies and gate-drive applications, while G-Series breakers incorporate finger-safe terminals and common trip linkage. Other series provide high-current switching, front-panel mounting, and actuator options suited for automation, telecom, medical, and military equipment.

Applications

Carling Technologies Hydraulic-Magnetic Circuit Breakers are used in industrial automation, factory automation, and building automation systems to provide overcurrent protection for control panels and electrical equipment. They are also deployed in process automation, power generation, and energy distribution systems requiring stable trip characteristics across varying environmental conditions. Additional applications include telecommunications and data infrastructure, medical equipment, generators, marine electronics, renewable energy installations, and military systems. The circuit breakers are suitable for AC and DC power distribution, motor control, communication equipment, test and measurement instruments, lighting systems, and mission-critical electrical protection where consistent overcurrent response is required.
