Overview

The ADIN2299 is a network-on-chip solution designed for industrial Ethernet applications. The chip features a low-power design operable at 3.3Volts and consumes only 840mW. It integrates a communications controller, a dual-port 10/100 Mbps Ethernet switch, memory, physical layer transceivers, and essential protocol stacks into a single chip. This integrated design simplifies system development and reduces board space.

The platform supports various industrial Ethernet protocols, offering flexibility for different applications. With low power consumption, robust performance, and advanced security features to protect network integrity, the ADIN2299 ethernet platform serves a variety of applications including industrial automation, building automation, motion control, etc.

Robust Design with Multiprotocol Support

The ADIN2299 facilitates multiprotocol industrial ethernet needs. Its primary features in the communications controller and a two-port Ethernet switch. The device comes with precertified industrial protocols like Profinet, EtherCAT, EtherNet, and Modbus.

Moreover, a dedicated software and configuration tool facilitates each protocol, making it easier for developers to start prototyping and evaluation instantly. Also, there are specialized software examples to help designers with the programming syntax.

The ADIN2299 also features a real-time operating system (RTOS), a file system, drivers, and TCP/IP. It uses multiple communication interfaces like UART, SPI, and Ethernet to connect to a wide range of external hardware.

Protection from Cyber Attacks with Secure Boot and Secure Update Features

Like any other networking device, the ADIN2299 chip presents a robust mechanism to safeguard hardware and connected computing devices from cyberattacks. It features a secure boot feature ensuring that only trusted software can be loaded during the booting process. Hence, it prevents any malicious software like rootkits or code from breaching security protocols.

Moreover, its secure update feature ensures that only trusted software updates are installed on the device. So, it verifies software integrity and authenticity of the updates using different cryptographic techniques.

Eventually, the secure boot and update features prevent malicious activities on the device. IOt prevents unauthorized access during the design phase. Moreover, it’s available as an embedded design for applications with unique form factors.

Seamless Development Environment with EVAL-ADIN2299 Evaluation Kit

While the chip is available in a miniaturized form factor, it is intended to be used with the EVAL-ADIN2299 evaluation kit. The kit features a power adapter, serial communication cables,  and the EVAL-ADIN2299 evaluation board, and is available in various protocols such as:

  • EtherCAT

  • EtherNet/IP

  • PROFINET

  • Modbus

Thanks to the evaluation kit, users can get started with rapid development by establishing the communication path with external computers, microcontrollers, and programmable logic controllers (PLC). It is a viable prototyping tool before the network interface is integrated into an end-field device.
