Overview

The ADIN1110 is an ultra-low power, single-port Ethernet transceiver designed for industrial applications. Compliant with the IEEE 802.3cg standard, enabling long-reach data transmission over a single pair of wires. This device integrates a MAC controller, simplifying system design and reducing power consumption.

Its key features include low power operation, robust error correction, and support for various cable lengths and environments. The ADIN1110 is ideal for applications requiring cost-effective and reliable Ethernet connectivity in space-constrained environments. Primarily, it is intended for industrial-grade applications such as building automation, condition monitoring, edge sensors and field instrumentation

Robust Error Correction Features

The ADIN1110 incorporates robust error correction mechanisms to ensure reliable data transmission over challenging industrial environments. It uses specialized error correction registers and advanced coding techniques to detect and correct errors introduced by noise, interference, or cable impairments.

These error correction features enhance data integrity and reduce the need for retransmissions. Moreover, the ADIN1110 utilizes Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) with a frame checker.

Advanced Diagnostic Features to Enhance System Reliability

The ADIN1110 incorporates a suite of diagnostic features to enhance system reliability and troubleshooting.

  • Cable fault detection - A Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR) engine, allows the ADIN1110 to accurately detect cable faults such as opens, shorts, or impedance mismatches. This capability aids in identifying cable issues and ensuring reliable data transmission.

  • Link quality indicator - Provides real-time feedback on link quality through metrics like Mean Square Error (MSE). This information helps assess link performance and troubleshoot connectivity problems.

  • Frame generator and checker - Includes built-in frame generation and checking capabilities to facilitate tecting and debugging. This allows users to create and analyze data frames for various purposes, including protocol conformance testing and error injection.

  • Multiple loopback modes - Supports different loopback modes (internal, external, digital) to isolate issues and verify device functionality. These modes are essential for troubleshooting and testing purposes.

  • IEEE test mode support - Adheres to IEEE test mode standards, enabling compatibility with industry-standard test equipment and procedures. This ensures interoperability and facilitates thorough device validation.

These diagnostic features collectively contribute to the ADIN1110's robustness and ease of use in industrial applications.

Advanced Low Power Operations for Modern Industrial Applications

The ADIN1110 is engineered for minimal power consumption, making it suitable for battery-powered and energy-constrained applications. It employs various power-saving techniques to optimize its operation. The device typically operates at a low supply voltage, such as 1.8V or 3.3V, to reduce power dissipation. It consumes only 42mW in the dual supply 1Vp-p mode.

Additionally, it supports 1Vp-p and 2.4Vp-p modes operating at 25MHz crystals as well as its flexibility for external clock inputs. All of these circuitries consume minimal power and contribute to the device's extended battery life and reduced thermal management requirements.
