Overview

The MAX32670-xx-ARDZ Development Platforms by Analog Devices are designed for long-range IoT applications. Powered by the Arm Cortex-M4 processor, these platforms offer high reliability and ultra-low power consumption. The MAX32670-SX-ARDZ features the SX1261 long-range RF transceiver, while the MAX32670-LR-ARDZ incorporates the LR1110 long-range RF transceiver module. Both transceivers support a frequency range from 800MHz to 960MHz, enabling wireless transmission of encrypted data over long distances.

The MAX32670-LR-ARDZ leverages Semtech's Long Range Cloud Geolocation capabilities, significantly reducing power consumption by determining asset location in the cloud. The low power consumption of these platforms makes them ideal for battery-operated devices. The onboard MAX32670 Arm Cortex-M4 microcontroller provides the capability to run entire RF stacks and user applications, making these development platforms versatile for a wide range of IoT applications.

High-Performance Microcontroller Core

The MAX32670-xx-ARDZ platforms are equipped with an Arm Cortex-M4 core featuring a floating-point unit (FPU) capable of operating at frequencies up to 100MHz. The MCU features 384kB of flash memory with error correction and 160kB of SRAM (128kB with ECC enabled), which can be optionally preserved in the lowest power modes. Additionally, the compatible real-time clock (RTC) offers precise resolution for managing protocol timeouts. The platform’s architecture is designed to support complex applications, particularly those requiring high reliability and low power consumption.

Advanced Security Features

Security is a key focus of the MAX32670-xx-ARDZ Development Platform. To ensure data integrity and confidentiality, the platform incorporates secure boot capabilities and supports various cryptographic algorithms, including AES-128/192/256. Radio Front-End (MAX32670-LR-ARDZ only)

The MAX32670-LR-ARDZ platform specifically includes a multi-purpose radio front-end designed for geolocation purposes. This front-end supports Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) scanning, including GPS and BeiDou. It also enables ultra-low power passive scanning for 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi networks.

Long-Range Multi-Protocol Radio Capabilities

Both the MAX32670-SX-ARDZ and MAX32670-LR-ARDZ platforms feature a long-range radio capable of supporting various modulation schemes. These include FSK, GFSK, MSK, GMSK, and long-range FHSS. The radio offers a programmable bit rate of up to 62.5kbps and 300kbps and operates within the sub-GHz ISM bands from 800MHz to 960MHz. This provides a high sensitivity down to -148dBm and a peak transmit power output of +15dBm.

Ultra-Low Power Management

The MAX32670-xx-ARDZ Development Platforms are optimized for energy efficiency, making them ideal for battery-powered devices. To enhance battery life, the platforms incorporate an ultra-low power real-time clock with an integrated power switch. This RTC consumes only 300nA of power during sleep mode, ensuring accurate timekeeping and protocol management while minimizing energy consumption.
