The Franka Emika collaborative robot (cobot) is a lightweight, extremely sensitive, smart robot that can do repetitive and often monotonous activities such as precisely regulated fitting, screwing, and inspection. The robot is designed to function similarly to a human arm, with exceptional sensitivity in each of its seven joints.

The Franka Emika cobot end joint allows for limitless rotation, which is ideal for screw driving. It can be used directly in a screw driving application due to the built-in force/torque sensing. The force and speed with which to drive in the screw are automatically calculated after inputting the screw length and torque value into the cobot's teach pendant. The Franka Emika cobot can conduct operations with a precision of 0.1 mm. Screws with maximum tightening pressures ranging from M1.6 to 12Nm can be used.

As seen in the video, the robot takes individual screws from a screw feeder and utilizes a nut runner to drive them into four positions on a terminal box for assembly. Once all four screws are in place, the robot inspects to make sure that all four screws are present, and placed in their precise locations.
