Overview
The Microchip Technology EV64Z42A Development Tool is a dedicated hardware platform for evaluating the MTCH2120, an I2C-based touch controller capable of implementing up to 12 noise-robust and water-tolerant touch buttons. This tool ensures a seamless assessment process by providing an environment to test the MTCH2120's capabilities and facilitates touch tuning, visualization of sensor data, and validation of the touch implementation. It integrates with the MPLAB data visualizer, allowing developers to determine the suitability of the MTCH2120 for their specific applications.
Advanced Onboard Touch Panel with Flexible Communication Tools
The Microchip Technology EV64Z42A Development Tool provides a flexible combination of microcontroller and touch panel to streamline the development and evaluation of touch-based input systems. It features 12 on-board touch buttons with a dedicated LED for each sensor that indicates the sensor status.
The touch buttons don’t require any external tuning thanks to easy tune support. They automatically adjust sensitivity during every run-time to adapt to the current conditions. Therefore, the touch panel provides a flexible option to work in wide-ranging environments. The low-power support also ensures energy-efficient operations, thanks to touch channel grouping.
Moreover, the board is flexible enough to communicate with external headers and sensors, thanks to dedicated connection slots. It also supports external hosts via dedicated connection headers. Interestingly, it doesn’t require any host coding for external hosts. Instead, it uses the Host Code Configurator from MPLAB to seamlessly integrate with external hosts.
It can connect to the onboard host to configure the external MTCH2120. It uses the I2C interface to connect the board with the host, with support for validation, visualization, and touch tuning.
Versatile Powering Options and Quick Prototyping Support
The Microchip Technology EV64Z42A development tool offers a straightforward operational interface. It supports quick prototyping by simply connecting the external electrodes, hence simplifying the setup process for beginner-level developers.
It offers 5V and 3.3V rail selectable power input options, with LED status indicators for power inputs, interrupts, and host control. It uses a USB Type-C connector for both power and communication interface with a PC. Thanks to the MPLAP Data Visualizer, the board provides touch tuning, validation, and visualization operations.
The development board features the ATSAMD21E18A microcontroller and provides separate and dedicated connection slots for MTCH2120 current and voltage selection. Moreover, there is an external shield selection pin allowing the board to choose from various connected shields.
The board provides a simple way to integrate applications involving touch inputs, especially in harsh conditions such as noise and moisture. Thanks to the touch interface with I2C communication, it greatly reduces the effort required to set up the IO interface, promoting rapid prototyping, especially for industrial-grade applications.
