Terms and Conditions

Entry Information:

  • All entries must be submitted by October 12 , 2023. Midnight, Pacific Time.
  • The opening date for entries is 12.00pm, GMT. on April 13, 2023. The closing date of the challenge is 12.00am, GMT. on October 12, 2023 (“Closing Date”). Entries received after this time will NOT be considered. Organisers of the competition reserve the right to adjust these dates and extend the deadline.
  • Nordic Semiconductor and Wevolver accept no responsibility for competition entries that are not successfully completed, submitted or received by the Closing Date for any reason, including, for example, due to a technical fault or other equipment failure of any kind.
  • Nordic Semiconductor, Mouser Electronics, Soracom, Crowdsupply and Wevolver claim no intellectual property rights over the material you provide to the Challenge. Your submitted designs remain yours. Your submission does not constitute an invention assignment to Nordic Semiconductor, Mouser Electronics, Soracom, Crowdsupply or Wevolver.
  • By submitting your entry, you acknowledge that neither the work nor its use infringes the intellectual property rights (whether a patent, utility model, functional design right, aesthetic design right, trademark, copyright, or any other intellectual property right) of any other person.
  • If you are selected as a finalist, you may need to supply additional video and/or documents for ‘proof of concept’. Failure to provide files may disqualify you from the challenge.
  • If you are selected as the Challenge winner then you commit to executing a partnership with Nordic Semiconductor in a pilot/project throughout 2023. You also commit to documentation (video, interviews, etc.) of the journey during the partnership and execution for joint marketing purpose (feedback and inspire the community).

Eligibility Criterias:

Eligibility Requirements:

  • This competition is not open to anyone living in a country, province, or state where this competition is prohibited, taxed, or otherwise restricted under national, federal, provincial, state, or local laws, rules, or regulations.
  • Written parental consent is required if the entrant is under 18. Nordic may ask the winner to provide proof of age.
  • This competition is not open to employees (or their immediate family members) of Nordic Semiconductor and Mouser Electronics, Soracom, Crowd Supply or any other sponsor of this challenge.

Judging the Competition:

  • The challenge entries will be reviewed by a five-person jury made up of leaders from Nordic Semiconductor, Mouser Electronics, Crowd Supply, Soracom, and Wevolver.
  • The judging process will take place from October 13th to October 27th, 2023.
  • Criteria for judging are:
    • Feasibility of solution, technically and commercially.
    • Level of innovation in the use of the technology deployed.
    • To what extent does the project impact the SDG’s.
    • Utilization of cellular technology from Nordic Semiconductor.
    • The use of submitted videos & images to support the idea.
  • The decision of the panel of judges (acting reasonably) will be final, and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into

Prize Information:

The first 100 valid entries will receive a nRF9160 Development Kit valued at $160. The hardware will be posted to the supplied address following successful compliance checks. A valid entry is considered a submission that fully completes the entry form within the challenge timeframe and that the submitted idea is not related to the creation of weapons or illegal material. SIM cards are issued with the development kit. Check if you are located in a covered area:(Check your region here)In case you are not, you will have to purchase your own SIM card.
The Prizes are non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and not redeemable for cash or other monetary value.

One overall winner of the Connect for Good Challenge will be selected to enter into a partnership with Nordic Semiconductor to develop their entry in a way that enables them to scale or improve their current model. This includes €20,000 cash and a partnership with the challenge sponsors to accelerate the development of the submitted project. This includes but is not limited to: support in technology selection, support to design for manufacturing, support to scale your production, support in providing a cost prognosis for production and prototyping, nRF Cloud Services 1-yr subscription for up to 500 devices for an nRF9160 based device. This covers all features, including location services and device management (Valued at $3,000). Soracom will provide a global SIM card for each connected device up to a maximum of 500. Each card will include 2GB/month worth of data for a year’s worth of service, and will provide access to Soracom’s connectivity cloud platform (Valued at $900).
* Potential engagement with Crowd Supply to support getting winning design into production.

The partnership may be a combination of technical, design and/or business advice, prototype development, or other manufacturing or marketing assistance. The prize is designed in collaboration with the winner to give them the resources and support they need to grow from their specific production and business stage.

The second winner will be awarded a prize that consists of: nRF Cloud Services 1-yr subscription for up to 200 devices for an nRF9160 based device. This covers all features, including location services and device management (Valued at $1,300). Soracom will provide a global SIM card for each connected device up to a maximum of 200. Each card will include 2GB/month worth of data for a year’s worth of service, and will provide access to Soracom’s connectivity cloud platform.(Valued at $900). Customized public relations package including a feature on Wevovler.com and mention in an industry-wide press release.

The third winner will be awarded a prize that consists of: nRF Cloud Services 1-yr subscription for up to 100 devices for an nRF9160 based device. This covers all features, including location services and device management (Valued at $650). Soracom will provide a global SIM card for each connected device up to a maximum of 100. Each card will include 2GB/month worth of data for a year’s worth of service, and will provide access to Soracom’s connectivity cloud platform (Valued at $900). Lastly, featured in the winners announcement published on Wevolver.com and in industry press release.

  • By participating in the competition, the participant agrees to assume full responsibility for any and all taxes associated with the prize.
  • By accepting the cash prize, the winner agrees to use the funds on expenses related to getting the project to the market with an nRF9160 inside.

Winner Announcement:

  • Winners will be announced via social media and an industry-wide press release by November 8th, 2023.
  • Winners will also be notified by email or telephone (using the details provided at entry) as soon as reasonably practicable after the Announcement Date.
  • In order to claim the ‘ideas for hardware’ prize you must: provide a valid postal address, phone number and other relevant contact details. The winner will receive the prize by post within 60 days of being notified, subject to passing compliance checks.
  • In order to claim the overall prize you must enter into a discussion with Nordic Semiconductor to determine the scope of the prize and its implementation within 30 days of being notified of winning.

General

  • By submitting an entry entrants will be deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Nordic Semiconductor reserves the right to refuse entry or to refuse to award the prize to anyone in breach of these Terms and Conditions.
  • By submitting, you agree to participate in a 30-minute call to present your idea (within 30 days of being notified), demonstrating which of the Sustainable Development Goals it addresses, in case you are selected among the 10 finalists. In case you fail to do so, you are automatically excluded from the competition.
  • Insofar as is permitted by law, Nordic Semiconductor or any of the challenge’ partners will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of Nordic Semiconductor, or its agents or employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
  • If you are a winner of the competition, you agree that Nordic Semiconductor, Mouser Electronics, Soracom, Crowd Supply and Wevolver may use your name, image, town or country of residence to announce the winner of this competition and for any other reasonable and related promotional purposes.
  • Every entry Nordic Semiconductor or any of the challenge’ partners decide to publicly share prior to the end of the challenge, is purely based on the material provided and there is no intention to promote any entry. To provide us with permission to share your entry if needed, do so by checking the according tickbox on the submission form.
  • Each individual is permitted to submit more than one project or idea, but only one prize will be granted per person.
  • Entries made on the internet will be deemed made by the authorised account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. In the event of a dispute, potential winners may be required to provide proof that the potential winner is the authorised account holder of the e-mail address associated with the potentially winning entry.
  • Nordic Semiconductor will process your personal data as set out in: https://www.nordicsemi.com/Privacy/Privacy-Policy . By entering the competition, you agree, in particular, that any personal information provided by you with the competition entry may be held and used by Nordic Semiconductor and Wevolver or its agents and suppliers to administer the competition and may be passed on to third party suppliers if required for fulfilment/delivery/arrangement of the prize.
  • Nordic Semiconductor reserves the right to hold void, cancel, suspend or amend the competition where it becomes necessary to do so.
  • Conditions will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to conflict of law principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
  • All disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms and Conditions, including any question regarding their existence, validity, or termination, will be finally settled under the rules of arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, which are deemed to be incorporated by reference into this clause. The number of arbitrators will be three (3). The place of arbitration will be Seattle, Washington. The language to be used for the arbitral proceedings will be English. The award of the arbitrators will be final and binding upon the parties.
  • The promoter of this competition is Nordic Semiconductor, Telenorbygget, Otto Nielsens veg 12, Norway and Wevolver, A'DAM Tower Overhoeksplein 1, 1031 KS Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
  • Each project entry must use the nRF9160 DK as the core development platform.
  • Each project entry may use Soracom global cellular connectivity, unless coverage is unavailable for their use location (check global network coverage here).
  • By participating in this competition, each entrant hereby acknowledges and agrees to the following:
    • Soracom is not the host of this competition, but is acting only as a judge. Soracom assumes no responsibility for the conduct of the competition or the acts or omissions of the host.
    • Entrant releases and agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Soracom, its affiliates, and its and their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, and representatives from all liability, claims, damages, and expenses arising out of or in connection with entrant's participation in the competition, the provision of any prize, or the use or acceptance of any prize
    • Entrant understands that Soracom does not make any warranties or representations, express or implied, with respect to the competition, including without limitation any implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Nor does Soracom make any such warranties or representations related to its services and products, except as provided in their respective terms and conditions.
    • This waiver and release shall be binding upon entrant's heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns.
    • By entering the competition, the entrant acknowledges that he or she has read and understands this waiver and release, and agrees to be bound by its terms and conditions.
  • Projects should be submitted in the English language.
  • The project must adhere to the challenge theme (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 7, 11, 13 & 15 )
  • Projects must be the work of the submitting individual (i.e. no plagiarism).
