BITS to ATOMS was founded by Duann Scott in 2009 to explore design for digital fabrication and the business models it enables. Initially started to explore commercial applications of research undertaken for a PhD at the University of South Australia School of Communication and simultaneously at the School of Architecture and Design. In 2011 the PhD was ‘put on hold’ to pursue the thesis from NYC at companies including Shapeways, Autodesk and nTopology. After over a decade of working directly for software, hardware and services companies in the additive manufacturing space, BITS to ATOMS was relaunched in 2021 as a consultancy to help advance and accelerate the adoption of computational design tools and advanced manufacturing.
