A robust robotic automation solution for testing devices that incorporate any type of physical input such as touchscreens or buttons.

Some time ago, we at rinf.tech faced the challenge of testing multiple devices and their constant software updates quickly and accurately. None of the available tools were fully capable of satisfying our demand for efficiency, speed, compatibility with existing systems and third-party solutions, scalability, and overall quality.

To address the issue and solve the challenge, we decided to build a custom robotic testing solution.

Using our in-depth knowledge of software and hardware processes and requirements, painstaking research on robotic technologies, robust R&D expertise, and top-notch software engineering talent, we built MATT – the ultimate device testing automation robot.

MATT features the robustness of an autonomous industrial robot combined with the flexibility of a human-like robot. This makes the device testing process easier and faster in any scenario.

MATT can perform full automated test cycles for both hardware and software thanks to:

  • a custom stylus effector that emulates any multi-touch gesture, like tapping, pinching, swiping, and rotating,
  • two high-resolution cameras and an integrated computer vision API, and
  • powerful electronics and robust structure.

In particular, MATT features:

  • Gesture automation – due to a capacitive stylus effector which can move at blazing fast speeds, tap, and swipe gestures can be easily mimicked with outstanding accuracy.
  • Multi-touch testing – the effector is equipped with three stylus nibs that move independently to replicate natural pinch and rotate interactions. These nibs are serviceable to ensure fitness for any material and capacitance requirements.
  • Flexible functionality – universal Input / Output and communication interfaces allow MATT to easily interact with external hardware components. Adjustable fixtures offer a versatile device mounting solution. Advanced embedded software safely interacts with curved screen devices.
  • Straightforward functionality – thanks to its unique and innovative design, MATT is suitable for a wide range of testing scenarios. Efficient and simple setup procedures leverage automation to reduce human interaction and eliminate calibration errors.

Due to its modular design, MATT can be used either as an embedded tool performing basic yet powerful tasks or as a complete and unified testing lab solution.

MATT use cases include, but aren't limited to:

  • testing automotive solutions such as infotainment systems,
  • automated touchscreen testing (smartphones, wearables, tablets),
  • stress testing, etc.

Fully conceived, designed, and assembled in-house by our robotic startup Adapta Robotics, this robot enables adaptability to custom integration requirements, including size and features.
