Episode 1: The 3 stages of adopting additive, with Matthew Forrester, L'Oreal

In our first episode, we visit L’Oréal headquarters in Clichy, France to chat with Matthew Forester, the company’s Additive Manufacturing Technical Manager.

Over the years, Matthew has become a pioneer of 3D printing, in his field and beyond. He works across a variety of different industries, helping others to incorporate the technology into their workflow. In our interview, he explains the three stages of adopting additive manufacturing: prototyping, plants, and production.

L'Oréal is an uncontested world leader in its vertical, one that encompasses most aspects of beauty, including beauty tech and virtual cosmetics. Adopting an additive approach in several prototyping and manufacturing processes (and even the products themselves) may hold a key to maintaining its long-term success in a rapidly transforming manufacturing and retail landscape.

Unlike some other long-established industry titans, L'Oréal has embraced high velocity additive manufacturing as part of the brand’s commitment to learning and transformation. They’ve incorporated it internally across numerous plants, labs, and corporate campuses, and externally, creating a community of cross-industry peers, who freely share ideas, insight and knowledge.
